IB Diploma Programme
An international education for curious and motivated students
Gymnázium a SOŠ Rokycany is the only public school in the Czech Republic accredited to offer the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) — a prestigious, two-year international curriculum culminating in the world-renowned IB examinations.
What is the IB Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) is an international course of study for students in the final two years of upper-secondary education.
It develops critical thinking, effective communication, and personal responsibility for learning.
The programme encourages ethical values, open-mindedness, and respect for diverse cultures.
IB students learn to think independently, research systematically, and connect knowledge across disciplines.
How the IB Programme Works
The programme is built around six subject groups and three core components.
Six subject groups
- Language and Literature – Czech Literature
- Language Acquisition – English B
- Individuals and Societies – History, Geography, Psychology
- Sciences – Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- Mathematics – Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA), Applications and Interpretation (AI)
- An additional subject from Group 3 or 4
Three core components
- TOK (Theory of Knowledge) – develops critical and philosophical thinking
- EE (Extended Essay) – an independent 4 000-word research project
- CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) – projects combining creativity, physical activity, and community service
Students also take four additional non-IB subjects: Information Technology, Czech Language, another Foreign Language, and Physical Education.
